What does a dental assistant do?
A dental assistant performs a variety of tasks related to dental care in a supportive role to the supervising dentist. These tasks may include record keeping, appointment scheduling, disinfection and sterilization, assisting the dentist during procedures, and other duties delegated by a supervising dentist.
Where does a dental assistant work?
Dental assistants work in clinical environments where dentists provide care which may include private practice dental offices, orthodontic offices, public health dental clinics, non-profit dental clinics, and more.
How do I become a dental assistant?
In Maine, dental assistants can be unlicensed persons. If a dental assistant is unlicensed, they may be trained on the job, or may elect to take a foundational training course including modules included in the Oral Health Navigator online training.
